Nothing will stop Qatar from organising the best ever World Cup in history: Ramon Calderon
Giving a tribute to the commitment and steadfastness of Qatar, Ramon Calderon, former President of Spanish football club Real Madrid, has said that nothing, even the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, will stop Qatar from organising the best ever World Cup in history.
Calderon, also a lawyer who once practised in the UK, gave his views in an exclusive video chat to Alkass Digital.
“I’m quite sure that they will not only come back stronger from this pandemic, but also that nothing will prevent them from organising the best world cup ever in history,” said the 68-year-old while speaking from Spain.
Drawing a simile, Calderon recalled the days of Second World War to state what former UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill had said. “Churchill said to the people of UK during World War II that kites rise higher against the wind.. And I think that applies to Qatari people quite well.
“They’ve braved malicious attacks they’ve suffered from different parts of the world trying to discredit the country and trying to harm intentionally so as to somehow stop them from hosting the World Cup. Qatar also showed great resilience in overcoming the very, very unfair economic blockade imposed by neighbouring countries. In the process Qatar has emerged more united and stronger than ever,” he opined.
Calderon added: “Qatar is a small country in population and size but gigantic in determination, perseverance, in keeping its commitment and developing big projects.
“That’s why I am sure that they will not only come back stronger from this pandemic but nothing can prevent them from organising and hosting the best World Cup ever in history.”
