PICPA Middle East Chapters conducted its first ever e-Conference
Our Life and Profession in the middle of Pandemic

The world is changing as an effect of the COVID-19. COVID-19 has a negative huge impact on the individual lives and the economy of most of the countries in the world. Some workers faced salary reduction, and some were forced to take leaves. But the worst is, some were being terminated. On a per country level, some countries slow down the growth and getting into recession, market shares and supply chain are declining, and business losses are continuously being incurred. Most of the people said that this is the new normal and everyone must adapt the changes to survive.
As everyone across the globe is attempting to adapt to these new changes, all chapters of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) in the Middle East had a collaboration to conduct the first ever e-Conference through the three two-hour webinar series specifically focusing on how we are going to respond on this type of pandemic under the theme “Global Finance Professionals’ 5R Approach to Navigate through the Pandemic”.
The first two series were spearheaded and held by PICPA Doha and PICPA Bahrain last June 5 and 6, 2020, respectively. The first series was led by Mr. Greg Loayon, CPA, CRA, MCSI, CII of PICPA Doha with the topic about the Financial Impact of COVID-19 and its Effect to Financial Professionals. Mr. Loayan tackled the impact to the global financial system and how has COVID-19 impacted businesses all over the world. Mr. Loayon also discussed in detailed the effect of the COVID-19 to the business strategy, employees, customers, operations, technology, industries and finance. Aside from the abovementioned topics, Mr. Loayon also enumerated the 5 R’s approach such as Resolve, Resilience, Return, Reimagination and Reform. On the latter part of the first webinar series, Mr. Loayon, showed on his presentation the list of professional roles considered to be stable, new roles that are predicted to be in demand and redundant roles that are expected to be removed.
On the subsequent series, Mr. Eric Mauricio, CPA, CIA of PICPA Bahrain directed the webinar with the topic related to the Truths Revealed in the Time of Crisis, which was focused more on developing and improving soft skills. Mr. Mauricio guided the participants in knowing what the essentials during the time of crisis are. Mr. Mauricio also reinforced the ultimate value of life and the purpose that people must have to serve.
The last part of the series will be conducted by PICPA Dubai to be led by Mr. Lyndin Magsino, CPA, CIA, CFSA, CRMA, EMBA on July 3, 2020 with topic about Global Business Strategy and Leadership.
