Doha: Qatar is building a 150-bed hospital for the workers who are quarantined in Industrial Area after the streets 1 to 32 were locked down to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
There is also a massive emergency department with 40 beds next to the hospital, which can see thousands of people a day.
This was disclosed during a field trip of media person and community leaders organised by the Ministry of Interior to visit the locked-down streets of Industrial Area.
During the visit they were briefed about the arrangements set in place for the workers who are quarantined there.
Ministry of Public Health has already set up an outpatient clinic in the area where testing and examination were done and all the needed medication are given free by the Hamad Medical Corporation.
“We apprentice the private sector for allowing us to use their building. One Qatari businessman has given us his building where we will be setting up an observation facility for people who need to stay for a day or two under observation,” Dr Khaled Abdelnour, from Ministry of Public Health, who is in charge of the area, said.
In Phase two a 150-bed hospital will build for the people in the area.
“For the size of the population in the area this is a lot and we are planning to replicate this in other parts of the country if needed,” he added.
