The General Directorate of Traffic has adopted a slew of measures in line with Qatar’s efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19.
As part of the initiative, personnel from the Traffic Patrol and Investigation Department are conducting patrols and awareness drives across the country in order to make the public aware of the precautionary and preventive measures taken in Qatar to combat the novel coronavirus disease, the General Directorate of Traffic said in a tweet, referring to a report by Qatar TV in this regard.
“Patrols are carried out at intersections, main roads and inner roads in accordance with directions from the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management,” said First Lieutenant Khaled Abdulla al-Kuwari, an official.
During these patrols, the personnel raise awareness about the importance of following the precautionary measures while going out. They also educate people on how to properly use masks and gloves to stay safe and prevent infection.
The awareness campaign and patrols are implemented at various points designated for these purposes. The initiative aims to stress the importance of staying at home, unless absolutely necessary, among road users in order to ensure public safety and support Qatar’s efforts in confronting the pandemic.
“We ask everyone to remain at home during this period and only leave for something urgent,” said First Lieutenant Ali Essa al-Maslamani, another official, who also requested people to avoid social gatherings.
He added that traffic patrols have been increased in order to cover more areas.
Places like Lusail City, Katara, West Bay, The Pearl-Qatar and the Corniche are being patrolled, among others. “We will work hard to combat the virus. Everyone should work together,” he stressed.
