On March 14, 2024, Philippine School Doha (PSD) welcomed students, faculty, and guests to its Research Congress themed "Innovate to Elevate: Charting new frontiers in research." Held in the school's gymnasium from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm, the event showcased the culmination of months of hard work and dedication by PSD students.
Dr. Alexander S. Acosta, the esteemed School Principal, delivered words of wisdom, emphasizing PSD's commitment to fostering a culture of research and innovation. He highlighted PSD's long-standing tradition of nurturing students' confidence in exploring critical and creative information from as early as grade 4. Dr. Acosta underscored the pivotal role of research teachers and supportive advisors in guiding students towards academic excellence, affirming, "The intelligence of our Psdians will never be underestimated."
Praising the remarkable support system at PSD, Dr. Acosta expressed pride in the students' motivation to pursue their academic goals. He reiterated PSD's mission to provide an environment where students can thrive and develop diverse skills, empowering them to make a positive impact in society. Dr. Acosta emphasized the importance of independence in learning, urging students not to rely solely on technology like 'ChatGPT' but to cultivate a natural understanding of various resources to enhance their educational journey.
The Research Congress featured student-led booths, each showcasing creativity and innovation reflective of their research projects. Utilizing recycled materials and a modest budget, students demonstrated their commitment to education and sustainability, captivating fellow students with their impactful displays.
Reflecting on their experiences, PSD students shared insights into the significance of such events. Junior High student remarked, "These events help us gain knowledge and recognition for our hard work," while a Senior High student highlighted, "It prepares us for college life and hones our critical thinking skills."
Despite facing challenges, including time constraints and research paper complexities, students expressed gratitude for the support of their peers and teachers. Their perseverance culminated in successful participation in the Research Congress, showcasing their dedication to academic excellence.
