Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is a crucial component of any workplace, central to the collaborative initiative focused on enhancing the welfare of Filipino workers through essential resources and education. 31 May 2024, Doha, Qatar – In a collaborative effort to enhance safety and health awareness, the Philippine Association of Safety Engineers Qatar (PHASE Qatar) and Bayanihan ng Manggagawa sa Konstruksiyon ng Qatar (BMKQ) have extended their outreach to the Philippine Migrant Workers and Other Overseas Filipino Resource Center (MWOOFRC) in Onaiza, Qatar. The center serves as a refuge for many distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). The joint initiative between PHASE Qatar and BMKQ is focused on educating and raising awareness about occupational safety and health (OSH) focusing more on household safety among the OFWs residing at the MWOOFRC facility. This program is part of their broader mission to support and protect Filipino workers in Qatar. PHASE Qatar, a proactive organization composed of safety engineers and professionals, has a long-standing commitment to OSH advocacy across various industries. - Qatar Implements Daytime Outdoor Work Ban to Protect Workers from Heat Stress
Doha, Qatar: In a bid to safeguard workers against the perils of heat stress during the scorching summer months, the Ministry of Labour has declared a prohibition on outdoor work during daytime hours. Effective from June 1, 2024, until September 15, 2024, the ban will be in force from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM. This directive is in accordance with Ministerial Resolution No. 17 of 2021, which outlines essential measures to shield workers from heat stress during the summer season. Under this decision, work in open-air environments and inadequately ventilated shaded areas is forbidden from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM. However, employees may resume outdoor work after 3:30 PM.

- CRA Publishes a Public Consultation on the Class License for Short Range Devices
Doha, May 21, 2024: The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has published a public consultation document related to the updated Class License for Short Range Devices (SRDs), aiming to receive views and comments from stakeholders and interested parties on the proposed updates. The proposed updates to the Class License are designed to keep pace with rapid technological advancements in radio-communications equipment and applications. The updates are generally related to 'Annexure (2)' of the Class License, where CRA proposes adding new applications and frequency bands for SRDs. Additionally, CRA proposes introducing updated rules, international standards, and technical specifications for SRDs intended to be imported to the State of Qatar, as well as the corresponding authorized maximum allowed output power. CRA ensures that advanced, innovative, and reliable information and communications technology services are provided across Qatar. Also, to stay abreast of rapid technological advancements, CRA ensures that there is sufficient radio spectrum. Recently, CRA has introduced new frequency ranges for SRDs as part of the proposed updates, responding to significant developments in radio-communications equipment and applications. These additional frequencies allow the use and sale of a greater variety of SRDs in the country, which will benefit consumers and other stakeholders in turn. Additionally, will support the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third Qatar National Development Strategy, which include providing world-class telecom services and improving the quality of life for citizens and residents. - Beach Clean-Up Drive at Sealine Beach Unites Residents, Bloggers, and Volunteers
Sealine Beach, Qatar – May 17, 2024: In a spirited effort to promote environmental hygiene and cleanliness, a group of around 40 dedicated volunteers gathered at Sealine Beach for a beach clean-up drive organized by National Cruise Qatar. The event, blessed with clear blue skies and a warm sun, saw an atmosphere of enthusiasm, unity, and determination, turning a routine clean-up into a vibrant community activity. The campaign, aimed at raising awareness about the detrimental effects of plastic littering on marine life, was spearheaded by Mr. Ghiath Naser, Executive Manager of National Cruise Qatar, and Ms. Klim Camponion, Senior Sales and Marketing Manager. - Qatar, Romania Sign MoU for Cooperation in the Field of Electronic Communications
Bucharest, May 20, 2024: The State of Qatar, represented by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), and Romania, represented by the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate in the field of electronic communications. The MoU was signed in Bucharest, Romania, by Eng Ahmad Abdulla AlMuslemani, President of CRA, and Valeriu Ștefan ZGONEA, President of ANCOM, in the presence of HE Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu. The MoU reflects the two parties’ recognition of the significance of cooperation in the field of electronic communications, and their desire for a fruitful, solid partnership in respect of the electronic communications policy. As outlined in the MoU, both parties will cooperate in areas of common interest, which include satellite regulation policy, including monitoring satellite frequencies and other regulatory aspects of electronic communications. This collaboration will take place through several means, including meetings, seminars, training courses and workshops. Additionally, it involves sharing expertise, best practices and relevant technical information; as well as exchanging views, as appropriate, coordinating common positions and procedures within international organisations; along with other forms of cooperation that may suit both parties. - MoI and Ras Laffan COP Holds Cultural and Awareness Program for Workers
Doha, May 14, 2024: In collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, represented by its 9 departments, the "Ras Laffan Community Outreach Program (COP)" initiated a diverse array of cultural and awareness events as part of the "Bedar" initiative for community engagement with workers. Over 900 workers representing 11 local companies, operating in the northern regions of Qatar participated in the event, which was held at the Barwa Workers Recreation Complex in Al Khor. Officers from the Human Rights, Public Relations, Civil Defense, Criminal Investigation, Drug Enforcement, Community Police, Traffic, Al Fazaa and North Security Departments under the Ministry of Interior presented a security awareness quiz during the program. On this occasion, Sheikha Al Anoud Al Thani, Head of the Media Studies Section at the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior, emphasized the importance of these events, which align with the ministry's strategic directions aimed at enhancing proper communication between workers and society and raising awareness among workers about security concepts, public safety and occupational safety at work sites, to reduce the risk of life-threatening injuries. It is worth mentioning that these events took place under the umbrella of the "Bedar" event. - PSME – Qatar Holds Inaugural General Membership Meeting and Technical Seminar
Doha, Qatar - In a show of unity and camaraderie, the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) – Qatar brought together a diverse group of mechanical engineers, spanning various generations and backgrounds, for its inaugural General Membership Meeting (GMM) and Technical Seminar. The event, held at Dusit Westbay on April 26, served as a reunion for early members while also welcoming new faces into the fold. Dr. Arlan Beltran, PSME's Deputy VP for Foreign Affairs, likened the gathering to a reunion, with attendees thrilled to reconnect with past presidents and pioneer members. Divided into two segments, the event featured Technical Presentations and a Plenary Session, all under the theme "Unified Mechanical Engineers Key Toward Prosperous Industrial Revolution 5.0".
