    The BMKQ Bowling Tournament 2024 highlighted community spirit and skill, with 32 Filipino teams competing; OFIE-M Team 2 emerged as champions. 07 June 2024, Doha, Qatar – The BMKQ Bowling Tournament 2024, a vibrant showcase of skill and camaraderie, took place on June 7th, from 6:00pm – 9:00pm at the Qatar Bowling Center. Spearheaded by the BMKQ Sports and Events Committee, the event was a testament to the dedication and organizational prowess of its chairman, Mr. Joseph Catarungan. This year's tournament saw enthusiastic participation from 32 teams representing 24 Filipino community organizations, all rallying in support of BMKQ's cause. The diverse mix of teams and players underscored the strong sense of community and mutual support prevalent among the Filipino diaspora in Qatar. After intense hours of competition, OFIE-M Team 2 emerged as the champions, demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork. Their victory was a highlight of the event, celebrating not just their prowess in bowling but also the spirit of unity and sportsmanship that the tournament aims to foster. Other notable achievers included Oryx Knights Eagles Club (OKEC), who secured the 1st Runner-Up position, and JIMMEK, who took 2nd Runner-Up. Additionally, Engr. Lester Militante of OKEC was recognized for achieving the Most Strikes, while Mr. Allen Dale Zapanta and Ms. Lorie Ramos earned the Highest Scores in the male and female categories, respectively. BMKQ organizes this bowling tournament at least twice a year, aligning it with their broader mission of promoting sports, healthy lifestyles, and team building among the community. These events provide an excellent platform for members to engage in physical activity, build stronger bonds, and maintain a healthy balance between work and recreation.   • Qatar Participates in the ITU Council Meeting

    Doha, June 4, 2024: The State of Qatar, represented by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), is participating in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council meeting, held in Geneva, Switzerland, from June 4 to 14, 2024. The Qatari delegation is led by Engineer Ahmad Abdulla Al Muslemani President of CRA. CRA participates in the meeting as an observer member of the ITU Council, composed of 48 ITU Member States, acts as the Union’s governing body in the interval between ITU plenipotentiary conferences, which is held every four years. The Council meeting ensures that the Union’s activities, policies, and strategies fully respond to the rapidly evolving telecommunications environment. Also, it ensures the smooth day-to-day running of the Union, coordinating work programmes, approving budgets, and controlling finances and expenditure. Key agenda items include discussions about the achievements of the Strategic Plan of the Union for 2023-2024 and discussing the operational plans of the Union 2025-2028. During the meeting, CRA will deliver a comprehensive presentation on Qatar's preparations to host the Plenipotentiary Conference in 2026 (PP-26). Additionally, CRA has a booth featuring interactive content highlighting Qatar's readiness to welcome the participating delegations. The booth also offers visitors an opportunity to learn about Qatar's evolving Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. The Plenipotentiary Conference is the highest policy-making body of the ITU. This is the key event for the ITU Member States to determine the future role of the organization and thereby the organization’s ability to influence the development of ICTs worldwide. Hosting this conference in Qatar will enhance opportunities for collaboration with stakeholders, contributing to attracting future investments and partnerships.     Doha, June 2, 2024: The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has launched a public consultation on its Reference Offer for Access to Submarine Cable Landing Station (ROA for SCLS) international connectivity services. The Reference Offer outlines the findings of CRA's comprehensive market assessment on access to international connectivity through Submarine Cable Landing Stations (SCLSs). The goal of this consultation is to receive views and comments from stakeholders and interested parties on the proposed Reference Offer, which, upon adoption, will be required from all licensed owners of SCLSs that provide access to international connectivity services in the State of Qatar. CRA values inputs from all stakeholders and interested parties in this important consultation. The SCLS Reference Offer aims to ensure an open access to international connectivity services in support to Qatar’s ambition to be an international digital technology hub regionally and globally. The play "Rosheta," a production by Advertisement Company, was written by Tamim Al-Burshid and directed by Faisal Al-Athba. The cast includes Maryam Fahd, Munther Thani, Abdullah Al-Hajri, Nada Ahmed, Abdullah Al-Mulla, Jassim Ashir, Faris Yousef, and Ahmed Al-Ajmi.   • Qatar Implements Daytime Outdoor Work Ban to Protect Workers from Heat Stress

    Doha, Qatar: In a bid to safeguard workers against the perils of heat stress during the scorching summer months, the Ministry of Labour has declared a prohibition on outdoor work during daytime hours. Effective from June 1, 2024, until September 15, 2024, the ban will be in force from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM. This directive is in accordance with Ministerial Resolution No. 17 of 2021, which outlines essential measures to shield workers from heat stress during the summer season. Under this decision, work in open-air environments and inadequately ventilated shaded areas is forbidden from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM. However, employees may resume outdoor work after 3:30 PM.

    Doha, May 21, 2024: The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has published a public consultation document related to the updated Class License for Short Range Devices (SRDs), aiming to receive views and comments from stakeholders and interested parties on the proposed updates. The proposed updates to the Class License are designed to keep pace with rapid technological advancements in radio-communications equipment and applications. The updates are generally related to 'Annexure (2)' of the Class License, where CRA proposes adding new applications and frequency bands for SRDs. Additionally, CRA proposes introducing updated rules, international standards, and technical specifications for SRDs intended to be imported to the State of Qatar, as well as the corresponding authorized maximum allowed output power. CRA ensures that advanced, innovative, and reliable information and communications technology services are provided across Qatar. Also, to stay abreast of rapid technological advancements, CRA ensures that there is sufficient radio spectrum. Recently, CRA has introduced new frequency ranges for SRDs as part of the proposed updates, responding to significant developments in radio-communications equipment and applications. These additional frequencies allow the use and sale of a greater variety of SRDs in the country, which will benefit consumers and other stakeholders in turn. The MoU was signed in Bucharest, Romania, by Eng Ahmad Abdulla AlMuslemani, President of CRA, and Valeriu Ștefan ZGONEA, President of ANCOM, in the presence of HE Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu. The MoU reflects the two parties’ recognition of the significance of cooperation in the field of electronic communications, and their desire for a fruitful, solid partnership in respect of the electronic communications policy. As outlined in the MoU, both parties will cooperate in areas of common interest, which include satellite regulation policy, including monitoring satellite frequencies and other regulatory aspects of electronic communications. This collaboration will take place through several means, including meetings, seminars, training courses and workshops. Additionally, it involves sharing expertise, best practices and relevant technical information; as well as exchanging views, as appropriate, coordinating common positions and procedures within international organisations; along with other forms of cooperation that may suit both parties. In this regard, Eng. Ahmad Abdulla AlMuslemani, President of CRA, emphasised that signing this MoU reflects Qatar's commitment to enhancing international cooperation and developing the telecommunications sector to achieve sustainable development and technological advancement. He added: "We believe in the importance of effective international cooperation for exchanging experiences and knowledge, as demonstrated in this MoU, which strengthens our relations with Romania and opens new avenues for cooperation in the field." He noted that signing this MoU is part of the CRA’s efforts to support Qatar National Vision 2030 and its goals, highlighting the importance of creating a balance between an oil-based and a knowledge-based economy, helping diversify the country’s economy and guaranteeing a stable and sustainable business environment.

  • FMM takes the lead in organizing an Environmental Care Day: A new way of staff environmental Awareness

    Doha, 19 May 2024: To promote environmental awareness and community engagement, Facilities Management & Maintenance Company (FMM) organized an impactful Environmental Family Day for over 100 staff members and their families at Flowers Each Spring Camp in Ras Matbakh. This initiative was led by Mubadara for Social Impact, Qatar's foremost CSR consultancy and management firm, under the governance of FMM's CEO, Eng. Irene Vidal. A day full of environmental activities from mangrove plantation, beach cleaning and educational environmental workshops conducted by Dr. Saif Ali Al-Hajari, President of Mubadara and his expert team. More than 1 tone of trash was cleaned from the beach and 100 mangroves planted in Ras Matbakh made an impact on carbon sequestration, coastal protection by preventing the pollution and improving the overall health of the ecosystem. Apart from the tangible impact, the environmental care day also fosters awareness through seminars and cultivates a corporate social responsibility mindset among the employees. This holistic approach ensures that not only the environment benefits, but also the people involved become stewards of our planet. The day ended with team building games and activities fostering the teamwork and employees collaboration. Closing the day with a special meal and refreshments everyone went home with lots of pleasant memories rich of environmental awareness and information about Qatar and the various species around us.
