  • Qatar Tourism Marks Inaugural Purple Saturday in State of Qatar

    In collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development and Family and Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Qatar Tourism through its promotional arm Visit Qatar is partnering with its stakeholders to launch the nation’s first-ever Purple Saturday initiative in the State of Qatar. This high-impact initiative is dedicated to empowering people with special needs in society and will be held annually on the last Saturday of July.  The initiative, launched by the Authority of People with Disabilities (APD) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2021, is celebrated on the last Saturday of July every year. The initiative has now been extended to cover the entire GCC region as a show of solidarity and unity. Purple Saturday in Qatar unites stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to champion accessibility, raise awareness, and fostergreater community participation. As part of this initiative, Qatar Tourism through its promotional arm Visit Qatar will mark Purple Saturday at the Qatar Toy Festival with a dedicated celebration. People with special needs will enjoy free access to the festival throughout its duration.   • Qabayan Radio successfully concludes Broadcast Academy 2025 Batch 1 in milestone event

    Doha, Qatar, 19 Jul 2025  – Qabayan Radio 94.3 FM, the pioneering Filipino radio station in Qatar, has officially wrapped up the first batch of its much-anticipated Broadcast Academy 2025. The closing ceremony, held on 19 July 2025 at the Qabayan Radio Station, marked the culmination of a transformative training experience for aspiring Filipino radio personalities. The 2025 Batch 1 of the Qabayan Broadcast Academy was launched in collaboration with Mirchi One 89.6 FM, a prominent name in Qatar’s multicultural broadcasting landscape. The partnership further enriched the program, bringing a wider range of expertise and industry insights to participants. Spanning from April to June 2025, the intensive crash course provided hands-on training and classroom instruction on several core aspects of broadcasting. The course combined theoretical learning with real-world experience, allowing participants to apply their training in a live radio setting. Main mentor and Broadcast Academy lead trainer, Engr. Ressie Fos , delivered a heartfelt message to the batch. A seasoned media educator and the driving force behind the RJ trainees’ development, Engr. Fos reminded the new radio jocks of the real essence of broadcasting. “Being a radio jock is not just about playing songs or speaking into the mic. It’s about responsibility, honesty, and the power to influence and inspire,” Fos said. “In your hands is a platform that can change lives. Use it wisely.” Qabayan Radio Jocks—Cody, Carl McFly, Mille G, Icee, and Charles—who supervised the trainees during their on-air broadcast practicum, also shared their insights and feedback during the closing ceremony. They offered constructive observations aimed at helping the trainees grow further in their broadcasting journey. A common piece of advice echoed by the RJs was the importance of discovering and developing one’s unique radio personality and on-air identity. Completers of Batch 1 received certificates of completion and were given recognition for their hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm throughout the training. Special awards were also handed out to outstanding trainees in areas such as Rising Broadcaster , Most Dedicated RJ-Trainee , Most Jolly RJ-Trainee , Best On-Air Voice , Most Engaging RJ-Trainee , Best in Playlisting & Programming , and Broadcaster of the Batch awards. Qabayan Radio announced that preparations are already underway for Batch 2 of the Broadcast Academy , with official details to be revealed soon.     Qatar Tourism has revealed a distinguished ten-member jury panel of local and international experts for its third edition of the Qatar Tourism Awards. These eagerly awaited awards honour organisations and individuals known for consistently delivering exceptional tourism experiences in Qatar. The Qatar Tourism Awards is an initiative by Qatar Tourism, developed in collaboration with the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), aimed at recognising individuals and businesses across the tourism and hospitality sector in Qatar for their remarkable contributions to service excellence.   • QNL honors emerging Library Leaders with QIMAM Award

    Doha, Qatar, 13 July 2025 : Qatar National Library (QNL), home of the IFLA Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Regional Office, has honored two emerging library professionals as the first recipients of the QIMAM: Qatar-IFLA MENA Award for Aspiring Minds. Raghad Ghanem Alqahtani from Saudi Arabia and Salma Mohamed Ayoub from Egypt were recognized for their leadership potential and community impact. The award provides librarians with the opportunity to attend the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) in Kazakhstan from 18 to 22 August 2025. Launched to foster the development of future industry leaders, the QIMAM Award attracted strong interest, with 40 applicants from across the MENA region. Following a rigorous selection process, eight candidates advanced to interviews held on 21 and 22 June. The finalists represented Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon. A distinguished panel of experts evaluated the candidates based on their contributions to the profession and their commitment to advancing libraries. The panel included Professor Hassan Awad AlSereihi, President of the Special Libraries Association, Arabian Gulf Chapter; Dr. Heba Ismail, Vice President of the Arab Federation for Libraries and Information; Mrs. Anfel Toafek from Algeria, a member of the IFLA MENA Regional Division Committee; Mr. Mohammed Saif, Director of Communication at QNL; and Mr. Maxim Nasra, Head of the Preservation and Conservation Center at QNL. Professor AlSereihi praised the QIMAM Award as a “brilliant initiative,” which was led by Ms. Eiman Al-Shammari of the IFLA Regional Office and Qatar National Library. “I was pleased to participate in evaluating the applicants who met the criteria. Listening to their stories, ambitions and career paths was both enlightening and encouraging,” he said. “I was deeply impressed by their knowledge, dedication and aspirations for the future. I only wish there had been four or more awards available to recognize the many distinguished candidates. The final selections were based on a fair evaluation process that reflected the collective judgment of the committee. I congratulate the two winners and encourage the rest to continue pursuing their goals. They, too, were exceptional." Dr. Ismail said she was honored to serve on the evaluation committee. “The experience was truly inspiring, offering me the opportunity to witness the passion and professionalism of the emerging generation of librarians in our region. The applicants’ diverse backgrounds and experiences reflect the dynamic growth of the sector. This initiative not only provides valuable professional opportunities, but also helps foster a cohesive regional community that champions innovation and development. I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to Qatar National Library and the IFLA Regional Office for their commitment to empowering young professionals.   • CRA opens Public Consultation on Updated Retail Tariff Instruction 2025

    Doha, July 13, 2025:  The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has opened a public consultation to seek feedback on the updated Retail Tariff Instruction (RTI) 2025. This consultation is part of CRA’s ongoing efforts to develop regulatory frameworks and adapt to changes in the telecommunications sector.   The updated version builds on the original Decision of the President of the CRA No. (3) of 2018, issuing the Retail Tariff Instruction which laid the foundation for Qatar’s retail tariff regulatory framework and has been in force since January 1, 2019.   The RTI applies to all licensed service providers who offer telecom services to the public in Qatar. It sets out rules, procedures, and requirements for retail offers for telecommunications services.   The 2025 revision introduces several important updates, drawing on the experience accumulated by the CRA in the process of retail tariff regulation since the RTI came into force, and aligning with international best practice.   These include enhanced tariff classification, stricter provisions on service periods and exit penalties, clearer guidance for promotional and bespoke tariffs, and expanded reporting requirements for loyalty programs. And expanding the flexibility in providing a variety of services, enhancing consumer value while ensuring regulatory compliance.   By allowing the CRA to review each service provider’s retail offers before they are introduced into the market, and instructing service providers on the extent and type of information that must be published for each offer, the RTI ensures consumers are equipped with the information they need to make informed purchasing decisions. In 2024 alone, CRA reviewed over 350 tariff submissions, covering pricing, service durations, promotional terms, and exit conditions.   Since 2008, service providers have also been required to publish approved tariffs on their websites, ensuring public transparency and access to accurate pricing information.   The public consultation on this revised RTI aims to ensure that consumers continue to benefit from high-quality telecom services in line with global standards.   It forms part of the CRA’s ongoing strategy to promote connectivity, collaboration, and digital transformation within Qatar’s ICT sector, ensuring the public has an opportunity to comment on the rules and processes that govern the offering of telecommunications services in Qatar.     Doha, July 6, 2025:  The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) announced the onboarding of KaopuCloud, a global edge-cloud provider, and Mibura, a data center and cloud solutions provider, to the Qatar Internet Exchange Point (QIXP). The move supports Qatar’s growing digital infrastructure and advances its position as a leading hub for regional internet traffic.
