Don't recall gifts being mandatory for any reason. Think that's why they're called gifts. If it is obligatory, it isn't a gift. Presumably gifts are given out of love and the pleasure of celebrating a milestone in the life of someone you are care about. That said gifts are a fairly standard way of appreciating those we care about. Thank you rjandi.
