  • Titans Games 2024 at Aspire Zone Foundation

    The “Titans Games” sports competition, the premier functional fitness competition organized by SportHub, is about to begin on the warm-up in Aspire Zone and The Torch Hotel on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, 2024, with the participation of more than 70 participants from three categories. About the competition: The Titans competition will push athletes to compete over 2 days, as it is divided into several categories, including regular categories, and a special category for Qataris, in addition to holding special activities for children and an opportunity to watch and encourage the athletes, and the winners will receive cash prizes exceeding 100,000 Qatari riyals.   • Pinoy Hoopers claims victory in Papa Johns 3x3 Qabayan Radio Community Basketball Tournament

    Pinoy Hoopers emerged as champions against Pusong Pinoy Partylist Qatar (PPPQ) in the first ever Papa Johns 3x3 Qabayan Radio Community Basketball Tournament at the University of Doha for Science and Technology on February 23, 2024. In a fast-paced and thrill-filled tournament, Qabayan Radio, in partnership with Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Inc. - PIBAQ and Beyond Sports, brought together 16 teams to compete in an action-packed afternoon where each team showcased their winning strategies. The event kicked off with a parade of the teams, each accompanied by their respective muses. Notably, Angesyl Manaog from Philippine Dragonboat Rowing Team (PDRT) Fireblades received the title of Best Muse, having the most audience impact among the rest, along with a plaque and cash prize. Pinoy Hoopers dominated the elimination rounds with an undefeated record. In the finals, they secured the championship title even before the game clock reached the 10-minute mark, shooting 21 points ahead of their opponent PPPQ. The triumphant quartet consisted of Oliver Roxas, who scored the most during the finals (9 points), Jeffrey Spark Cristobal, Sandy Limin, and Karlo Fajilagot who bagged the grand prize of QAR 2,000. Runner-up, PPPQ, received QAR 1,000 while the Marinduqueños in Qatar secured a podium finish with a victory against the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers. Cristobal of Pinoy Hoopers was also awarded the Most Valuable Player. The top three teams were also awarded their respective trophies and medals, while all teams received their plaque of participation. Teamwork, skill, and camaraderie were the focus of the tournament in and off the court, captivating supporters who were anticipating each game’s conclusion. As the first 3x3 Qabayan Radio Community Basketball Tournament came to a close, the organizers from Qabayan Radio expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all participants, supporters, event partners, and the primary tournament sponsor – Papa Johns.   • Mowasalat (Karwa) has a new acting CEO

    Appointment of Mr. Ahmad Hassan Al-Obaidly as Acting Chief Executive Officer of Mowasalat (Karwa) Ahmad Hassan Al-Obaidly joined Mowasalat in 2019, where he assumed the position of Chief Operations Officer and was appointed as Acting Chief Executive Officer in February 2024. Under Mr. Al-Obaidly’s strategic leadership of Mowasalat Operations, the company delivered seamless transportation services for several national and international projects such as AFC Asian Cup 2023™, FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, The FIFA Arab Cup 2021™, FIFA Club World Cup 2020™, and Formula 1 events, amongst others. In view of the company’s fulfillment of the Qatar National Vision, he spearheaded the organization’s transition to electric vehicles and the establishment of the respective pilot charging infrastructure. His focus on robust processes and systems has notably enhanced service delivery and customer satisfaction, emphasizing safety and reliability. Prior to his tenure in Mowasalat, Ahmad Hassan Al-Obaidly was a Technical Advisor in the Ministry of Finance, where he successfully delivered key projects during 2016-2019. In parallel, he has held several high-profile Board and Committee memberships. From 2008 – 2016, he worked in the projects department in Qatar Petroleum (now QatarEnergy), with a secondment to Shell plc in the Netherlands. Ahmad Al Obaidly holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Qatar University.

  • A Joint Effort in Capacity Building through IPv6 Training Initiative by CRA and RIPE NCC

    Doha, February 25, 2024: In line with Qatar’s Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) Implementation Strategy and as an essential component of the ongoing joint capacity-building efforts, the Communications Regulatory Authority in Qatar (CRA) in collaboration with the Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC), conducted a three-day training course on IPv6 from February 19 - 21, 2024. The training course was attended by attendees representing Qatar’s IPv6 Taskforce Members from Aspire Zone, Qatar Energy, Ministry of Public Health, Hamad International Airport, Sidra Medicine, General Authority of Customs, Carnegie Mellon University-Qatar, Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar Foundation, Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Qatar Airways, and the University of Doha for Science and Technology. The training was thoroughly designed to equip participants with the essential knowledge and skills required for a seamless and successful transition from Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) to IPv6. It provided an in-depth exploration of critical aspects of transitioning to IPv6 such as configuration, deployment, routing, and security. It addressed the significance of IPv6 and its necessity for modern networks. The course offered foundational knowledge on planning IPv6 deployment and addressing strategies. Furthermore, it encompassed additional relevant topics on IPv6 that are crucial for telecom network infrastructure. “In line with our commitment to support digital transformation and enhancing the technological infrastructure in the State of Qatar, the importance of the training course offered in collaboration with the RIPE NCC becomes evident. This initiative is a cornerstone in our strategy to building the capacity of our technical staff and enable them to apply the latest global standards in the Information and Communication Technology field.” said Ali Al-Suwaidi, Director of the Technical Affairs Department at CRA.     Qatar Tourism introduces the all-new ‘Luminous Festival’ light festival this month. Kicking off on February 21, Luminous Festival will run daily till March 2 at Al Saad Plaza, Lusail Boulevard concluding this year’s winter season. The first of its kind festival will open its doors daily from 17:00 till midnight. The event is set to be a visual treat as the biggest light festival in Qatar, with nearly 20 interactive installations, five zones, live mascots, stage performances, and a variety of entertainment. ‘Luminous Festival’ is gearing up to host performances by renowned entertainment teams, such as Candela and Boogie Woogie, based on Qatari and contemporary cultures suitable for all ages and tastes. In addition, there will be stage performances from international and regional artists. Commenting on the festival, Eng. With moving lights and large projections, the Gateway Zone tells a story about the festival. The installations at Gateway Zone are designed by the international design studio ‘Limelight’. Limelight, founded in the late 1990s, specialises in lighting art installations, projection mapping, and immersive experiences, and has won several international awards in light projection. Earth The Earth Zone will feature designs by Amigo & Amigo. It is set to display garden-themed installations which captivate viewers with their fluorescent, interactive lighting representing elements of nature. Founded in 2012 in Sydney, Australia, Amigo & Amigo specialises in sculpture and industrial design. Their artistic vision entails a complete transformation of environments to immersive and aesthetic installations. Amigo & Amigo have set up designs across Asia, North and South America, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East. Water The designs at the Water Zone are created by Atelier Sisu and China Light Festival B.V. Inspired by several marine elements, primarily the Darb Lusail Plaza Whale Shark, the Water Zone will provide visitors opportunities to understand more about the wonders of the ocean. Sydney-based design studio, Atelier Sisu, is led by Renzo B. Larriviere and Zara Pasfield. They have been internationally recognised and awarded for their unique public installations which fuse art and architecture to promote community interaction. China Light Festival B.V. is the European subsidiary of the international company Sichuan Tianyu Culture Communication Co., Ltd., based in China. They are renowned for organising world-class light events, particularly lantern festivals, with exhibits, performances, and activities. Fire The Fire Zone demonstrates warmth and glow through interactive installations inspired by ignition and fireworks, by Digital Art Projection (DAP). DAP is founded and created by award-winning artist Georgie Pinn, and specialises in 3D architectural mapping, cultural festivals, and interactive screens. They have created installations for various international events including fashion runways and live musical performances. Air The Air Zone will feature artwork based on air and space, with luminescent beauty that captivates visitors to quite literally be on cloud 9. Key designer for this zone is Australian design studio Airena, led by artist Felipe Reynolds and director Ed Boyle, who have worked on several international projects ranging from theatrical costumes to Cricket World Cup stage designs.
